31 people have been confirmed dead and least 130 were injured today when a terrorist blast rocked Russia's Moscow's Domodedovo airport. A suicide bomber is believed to be behind the attack. The attack happened at the international arrivals hall at the airport. Several kilos of TNT were believed to have been used in the attack.
Travel Chaos on the Road to Sheremetyevo
11 August 2010 Moscow News
Moscow City Hall agreed to reopen an extra two lanes on the busy highway to Sheremetyevo Airport, following complaints from businesses of a "blockade" on Leningradskoye Shosse.
Construction work on a bridge in Khimki brought traffic to a near standstill for four days last week, causing hundreds of passengers to miss flights and headaches for local businesses. The journey to/from the airport is taking 4-6 hours and some 1,300 passengers missed their flights on Monday — the first day of the unannounced road closure.
All but two lanes on the bridge were closed to ensure that renovations are finished by 01 October. Keeping four of the road's six lanes open will now push back the finish date to 01 November.
In the meantime, Sheremetyevo and its carriers are advising passengers to use the Aeroexpress train, which connects the airport with Moscow’s Belorussky Station.
